1832 Fayette County Kentucky List of Tavern Keepers
This is a copy of the original Fayette County Circuit Court document with a listing of all the Tavern Keepers that were granted a license in 1832. You will see near the bottom the name of Thomas S. Graves. In 1834 Thomas built Graves Tavern Stand a dry stone Tavern that is still standing. The stone likely came from the Keene Farm located nearby that had a rock quarry. He had sold Thomas the land in 1833 on which the tavern now stands.
1950 Photo of Graves Tavern Stand
A 1950 photo of Graves Tavern Stand. The old stone house has been many things thru the years, the home and tavern stand (upscale inn) of my second great grandfather, a general store, a fort for Union soldiers during the Civil War and even a post office. It has stood the test of time, surviving for 171 years!
